Fun with Friends

Last weekend my very best friend, Miyong, and her boyfriend, Adam, were in town for our friend Ben's wedding. We had a great time hanging out, going to the wedding and exploring the city. Here are some pictures from our weekend!

My best friend and me!

And you've GOTTA love a photo booth! Here's a Minnetonka reunion of all of us from good 'ol Minnetonka High School. The groom (Ben) is the one in the middle.

Another one of Jess and I, in our typical pose :)

A beautiful view from our visit to Kerry Park

We ate lunch on the pier on Sunday and even got some sunshine

What a great weekend!

Welcome to 27

Well, it's true, I'm now 27 years old. I told Luke I'm catching up to him.

We had a week of birthday celebrations kicked off by our friends John and Elise, who threw me a surprise b-day dinner last weekend since they wouldn't be in town to celebrate my birthday on the actual day. It was delicious!

Elise even made my favorite cake - funfetti!

They were also kind enough to let me bring all my birthday balloons home, to which Luke insisted that we stuff in the car with us. Luckily we opened the sunroof and it was only a mile home, because I was pretty sure I was going to float right out the roof at one point.

Home safe and sound. It was quite the feat getting OUT of the car with all of my ballooons...

So, since Luke had to work on my actual birthday, some of my friends took me out for breakfast at Portage Bay - the YUMMIEST breakfast locale in Seattle. They have a toppings bar with bowls of fresh fruit and homemade whipped cream to pile on your french toast or pancakes. It was delicious! And I can't complain about the company either. Carly, Becca, Bethany and Megan are some of the best friends a girl could ask for!

Later that day, I got a massage, booked by my wonderful husband. It was amazing. Really amazing. Then on his way home from work, he told me to pack my bags for a surprise birthday getaway! After using my deductive reasoning powers, by the time we made it to the elevator, I had guessed that we were going to the San Juan islands. So, we hopped in the car and drove to the Anacortes ferry. We stopped at a restaurant along the way and got takeout, which we ate in the ferry line. And since we didn't have any bday cake or candles on hand, Luke stuck one of his fries upright in my cup of sour cream and sang happy birthday to me. It was perfect :)

Luke loves riding the ferry!

We caught a beautiful sunset on our ride!

Luke made reservations at an adorable inn called the Inn at Ship Bay. It was the perfect place to spend our weekend with a great view right off our back porch. We started off our Sunday morning with coffee and a view...

After breakfast at our hotel, we drove to one of the state parks on the island and did some hiking. We made it down to the beach along the sound where we heard the starfish tend to be. And there they were!

They were everywhere, just attached underneath the rocks.

Love my husband!

The area of the island that we went hiking was appropriately named Doe Bay. There were TONS of deer just walking around the island, and they were really tame. You can see how close we were able to get to this one.

We also went to Mt. Constitution. It's about 2,000 feet; however, we opted to drive to the top this time :) There was a lookout at the top of the mountain where you could see all of the San Juan Islands, Anacortes, Bellingham, and even Vancouver

What a view!

On Sunday night we went out for dinner and took a walk afterwards. We walked to the island's airport, which is where the "Barefooted Bandit" stole his first plane from.

I had the best birthday weekend thanks to my fabulous friends, family and amazing husband. I think 27 is going to be a great year!

More Hikes by Luke

Luke has been able to get out hiking most weeks on his days off. Here are some pictures from some of his latest treks!

Love this city

Luke and I went out for dinner at Ray's Boathouse, a great restaurant overlooking the sound. And lucky us, we got to watch this amazing sunset from our table.
